Building Your Course in Canvas

Canvas Essentials

Tailored for instructors who have never used Canvas before or need a refresher on how Canvas works.

Skills you'll gain:

  • Organize navigation menus, set up modules, and establish your course homepage.
  • Create and edit content pages, upload files, and manage assignments and discussions.
  • Publish course content correctly for student access.

Active Teaching

A beginner-friendly workshop focused on the essentials of running a live course smoothly throughout the semester.

Skills you'll gain:

  • Configure notifications and use Inbox/Announcements to communicate effectively.
  • Streamline grading using the Gradebook, grading policies, and SpeedGrader.
  • Manage assignments, weighting, dropping lowest scores, rubrics, and the Rich Content Editor.

Prerequisite Note:

Attending "Building Your Course in Canvas" first is recommended for complete beginners.

Assessments

Master the Canvas New Quizzes tool to build, moderate, and manage assessments effectively.

Skills you'll gain:

  • Create new quizzes, configure viewing options, and moderate student attempts.
  • Build diverse question types and utilize test banks to import questions.

Getting Started with Echo360

Learn the essentials of video integration using Echo360 with closed captioning support.

Skills you'll gain:

  • Upload, import, or create new videos within Echo360.
  • Embed Echo360 content directly into Canvas pages, assignments, and modules.
  • Add interactive questions, polls, and edit transcripts for closed captioning.
